DWH Mentor Guidelines & Criteria
Affiliation
Must be a DWH Committee Member or recommended by a DWH Committee Member.
Commitment to Mentorship
Demonstrates a genuine interest in guiding DWH scholars through career, academic and personal growth.
Willing to commit to a minimum of 1-2 hours (cumulative) per month for mentoring activities (virtual or in-person).
Coordinating as needed and as available, professional and personal development exposures.
Expectation to initiate contact with parent(s) or guardian(s).
Agrees to participate in mentor orientation and feedback sessions hosted by DWH.
Values long-term relationship building more than transactional interactions.
Character and Conduct
Upholds high ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions.
Must have no active disciplinary, ethical, or legal issues that could affect credibility or mentorship integrity.
Diversity and Inclusion Alignment
Demonstrates cultural competence and sensitivity to students from diverse socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds.
Encourages open dialogue and supports mentees’ individual identities and aspirations.
Contribution to School/Jamaican and Global Community
Serves as a bridge between school and community, promoting educational and career pathways for future leaders.
Evaluation and Endorsement
Prospective mentors must:
Complete a mentor application or profile form (including bio, industry, and area of expertise).
Undergo a review by DWH Executive Committee prior to acceptance.
